National Youth Day-2023
● The birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda is celebrated every year on 12th January as National Youth Day.
● This day was named 'National Youth Day' in the year 1984.
● The day aims to give direction to the young minds of India and unite them as a force for nation building. It is one of the largest attempts at social cohesion and intellectual & cultural integration. Its aim is to bring together the diverse cultures of India and embed them with 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.
● Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with Government of Karnataka is organizing 26th National Youth Festival at Hubballi- Dharwad, Karnataka from 12th to 16th January.
● The theme of the National Youth Festival 2023 is ' Viksit Yuva, Viksit Bharat'.
● The main purpose of celebrating this festival is to promote relations between the diverse cultures of the country to strengthen the unity of the country.
● This year the Youth Festival is being celebrated as a green festival using biodegradable material.
● India is hosting the G-20 this year and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is organizing 'Y Talks' across the country for the Y (Youth)-20 activities of the G-20.
● National Youth Festival will sensitize youth about the theme of Y-20 and ensure their participation for Y-20 across the country.
● The following issues have been included in the youth summit-
(i) Future of Work, Industry, Innovation and 21st Century Skills,
(ii) Climate change and disaster risk reduction,
(iii) Peace building and Reconciliation,
(iv) Shared future-youth in democracy and governance,
(v) Health and Well Being
● As a part of the festival, a Yogathon has also been planned on January 15 from 6 am to 8 am involving 5 lakh people from 31 districts of Karnataka.
