Barindra Kumar Ghosh
⬧ Shri Barindranath Ghosh was born on January 5, 1880 in London.
⬧ Barindra Kumar Ghosh, the younger brother of Aurobindo Ghosh, was an Indian revolutionary and journalist.
⬧ Born in England, he was educated at Deoghar and received military training from Baroda.
⬧ He was highly influenced by Aurobindo and got inspired by him to join the Indian revolutionary movement.
⬧ He was actively associated with the prominent freedom fighter Jatindra Nath Banerjee (Niralamba Swami).
⬧ In the year 1906, Barindra Kumar started the publication of the Bengali weekly magazine 'Yugantar'.
⬧ Later, in the guise of a fitness club in Bengal, the secret revolutionary wing Yugantar was formed.
⬧ He was instrumental in recruiting young revolutionaries along with Jatindranath Mukherjee (Bhagha Jatin).
⬧ He chose a secret place in Maniktala, Calcutta where the revolutionaries used to make bombs and collect arms and ammunition.
⬧ Barindra and Aurobindo were arrested along with other freedom fighters on May 2, 1908, in an intense police investigation after the attempted assassination of Magistrate Douglas Kingsford.
⬧ Barindra Ghosh and Yugantar Party member Ullaskar Dutta were sentenced to death in the Alipore bomb case but the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment with the intervention of Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das.
⬧ In the year 1909, Barindra Kumar was sent to the Cellular Jail in Andaman. After his release from jail, Barindra started his journalistic career and joined 'Dainik Basumati' and 'The Statesman'.
