Dr. Rajendra Prasad
● Doctor Rajendra Prasad was born on 3 December 1884 in a village called Zeradei in Siwan district (Bihar).
●His father's name was Mahadev Sahai and mother's name was Kamleshwari Devi.
●At the age of 12, he was married to Rajvanshi Devi.
●He passed the matriculation examination from Chhapra district and took admission in the Presidency College of Kolkata for further studies.
●The partition of Bengal in 1905 also affected Dr. Rajendra Prasad and he burnt foreign goods in support of indigenous goods.
●Along with this, he attended the Congress session of 1906 and heard the speech of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Dadabhai Naoroji and Gopal Krishna Gokhale, in which he was greatly influenced by the views of Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
●After teaching for some time in Muzaffarnagar, in 1909, Dr. Rajendra Prasad passed the law examination and made advocacy his profession.
●In 1915, Dr. Rajendra Prasad met Mahatma Gandhi, after which Prasad was greatly impressed by his personality.
●In 1917, Dr. Rajendra Prasad played an active role in the 'Champaran Satyagraha' run by Mahatma Gandhi to liberate indigo farmers from British exploitation in Champaran, Bihar and in memory of the events of Champaran Satyagraha, Dr. Rajendra Prasad wrote a book titled 'Mahatma Gandhi in Champaran'.
●The Congress session of 1934 held in Mumbai was chaired by Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
●Dr. Rajendra Prasad was a member of the Congress Executive during the Quit India Movement held in 1942. As soon as the proposal of Quit India Movement was passed, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was arrested along with all the Congress leaders and was lodged in the jail in Ahmednagar.
●While in jail, Dr. Rajendra Prasad wrote a book called 'India Divided' which describes the immediate Indian political situation.
●Dr. Rajendra Prasad was given the responsibility of Food Minister in the interim government formed in 1946.
●Dr. Rajendra Prasad was made the permanent chairman of the Constitution Committee constituted for the Constitution of India.
●After independence, when the Constitution of India came into force on January 26, 1950, Dr. Rajendra Prasad got the distinction of becoming the first President of India and after completing a successful term of 5 years, Dr. Rajendra Prasad was again elected for the second term of the post of President.
●After retiring from the presidency, Rajendra Babu started living in 'Sadaqat Ashram' in Patna.
●Doctor Rajendra Prasad was awarded with India's highest civilian honor 'Bharat Ratna' in 1962.
●Dr. Rajendra Prasad died on 28 February 1963.
