Sarojini Naidu

'श्रम करते हैं हम

⬧ Sarojini Naidu was born on February 13, 1879 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu, popularly known as 'Nightingale of India', passed her high school examination and joined King's College London and Girton College of Cambridge University to continue her education.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu married Pandit Govind Rajulu Naidu at the age of 19 defying caste tradition.
⬧ While still in school, she wrote the Persian drama Maher Munir and the Nizam of Hyderabad also praised it.
⬧ Her first collection of poems 'The Golden Threshold' was released in the year 1905.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu joined the Indian independence movement after the partition of Bengal in the year 1905.
⬧ She made many trips to India between the year 1915 & 1918 and discussed & inspired people for nationalism and social welfare.
⬧ The Government of India had given her the title of Kaiser-e-Hind for serving the people during the plague epidemic in India, which she returned after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu was a strong supporter of Hindu-Muslim unity in India and is called the 'Nightingale of India' for her poems.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu joined the Satyagraha movement founded by Mahatma Gandhi in the year 1920.
⬧ She was detained for participating in the Salt March of the year 1930 along with many other famous leaders and freedom fighters.
⬧ She was also among the prominent leaders arrested during the Quit India Movement. She was kept in the Aga Khan palace in Pune. She was released from jail after 10 months and again became active in politics.
⬧ Sarojini Naidu had been active in the freedom struggle from the beginning. She led the satyagrahis after the arrest of Gandhiji and all other leaders during the Dharsana Salt Satyagraha.
⬧ On December 3, 1940, she was arrested by the police for participating in the individual Satyagraha led by Vinoba Bhave, but was soon released from jail due to health reasons.
⬧ After independence, she was appointed as the Governor of Uttar Pradesh and remained on this post till March 1949 and died during her tenure.
