Bipin Rawat
⬧ Bipin Rawat was born on March 16, 1958 in Pauri Garhwal, Uttarakhand.
⬧ Bipin Rawat received his early education at Cambrian Hall School in Dehradun and St. Edward's School, Shimla and joined the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, where he was awarded the 'Sword of Honour'.
⬧ In the year 1978, Bipin Rawat was selected for commission in the 5th Battalion of the 11th Gorkha Rifles after passing out from the 'Indian Military Academy' at Dehradun.
⬧ Before coming to the post of Army Chief, General Bipin Rawat also took over as the Commander of the Southern Command and the Chief of the Army Staff.
⬧ Along with commanding the Multinational Brigade in Congo, he was also given responsibility on important posts like Secretary General and Force Commander in the UN Mission.
⬧ Many articles written by him on national security have been published in many journals around the world.
⬧ He was awarded Doctorate of Philosophy by Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut for his research on Military Media Strategic Studies.
⬧ On his visit to the United States of America in the year 2019, General Rawat was inducted into the United States Army Command and General Staff College International Hall of Fame.
⬧ He was also an Honorary General of the Nepalese Army.
⬧ The post of CDS was created in the year 2019 on the recommendations of the Committee of Defense Experts headed by Lt Gen DB Shekatkar.
⬧ General Bipin Rawat was the first CDS of the country and was appointed on December 31, 2019.
⬧ He has been awarded Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Yudh Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, COAS Commendation, Army Commander Commendation etc.
⬧ On December 8, 2021, CDS General Bipin Rawat passed away in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.
