Jai Narayan Vyas
● Jai Narayan Vyas was born on February 18, 1899 in Jodhpur.
● On November 11, 1918, he established 'Pushkarna Yuvak Mandal', which published many short booklets of songs related to social reform.
● Vyas composed songs related to social reform in the second decade of the twentieth century. In the year 1932, he established 'Jai Kanya Vidyalaya' for girls.
● In the year 1927, he became the editor of 'Tarun Rajasthan' and in 1936 he brought out a daily newspaper named 'Akhand Bharat' from Bombay. In these letters, under the title 'Vartman Marwar', he severely criticized the corrupt and autocratic rule of Marwar and called for the end of monarchy and establishment of responsible governance in the princely states.
● In the year 1929, the government banned the session of Marwar Rajya Lok Parishad, then the booklets 'Popabai Ri Pol' and 'Marwar ki Awastha' composed by Jainarayan Vyas were distributed among the public. Marwar rule was severely criticized in these. As a result, he was arrested on September 2, 1929.
● On May 10, 1931, 'Marwar Youth League' was established at his residence, which worked to spread public awareness in rural areas. In the year 1936, Jai Narayan Vyas was elected General Secretary in the Karachi session of the All India State Lok Parishad.
● In the year 1939, he was nominated as a non-official member of the Central Advisory Board and in the year 1940, he was appointed as the president of all the branches of the Marwar Lok Parishad. In 1941, Jai Narayan was elected the first elected president of the Jodhpur municipality.
● On May 11, 1942, Jai Narayan Vyas was declared the first dictator in the Satyagraha movement of Marwar Lok Parishad. He clarified the need of this movement by publishing a release 'Marwar Mein Uttardai Shashan Ka Andolan (Movement for the responsible government in Marwar)'.
● He was arrested on May 26, 1942. Vyas was in jail during the 'Quit India' movement. Therefore, could not actively lead the public. On October 24, 1947, Maharaja Hanuwant Singh formed the feudal cabinet, which he opposed and declared a struggle for responsible governance.
● On March 3, 1948, under the pressure of the Government of India, Jai Narayan Vyas was appointed the Prime Minister of Marwar. He was the President of Rajputana Provincial Congress Committee from 1949 to 1952 and Chief Minister of Rajasthan twice (from April, 1951 to March, 1952 and from November, 1952 to November, 1954).
● Due to his lofty character, he started being addressed as 'Lok Nayak'. He died on March 14, 1963.
● Regarding his character, Bikaner ruler Gaj Singh wrote to Marwar Prime Minister Donald Field, “Undoubtedly Mr. Jai Narayan Vyas has been the sharpest in criticizing the monarchy; But he is very honest, no one can corrupt him. He is true to his political beliefs."
